Jacob Brady, an MD/PhD student in the Trakhtenberg lab, has won a highly competitive National Institutes of Health (NIH) F30 fellowship titled “Transcriptional regulation of axon regeneration by Klf9 inhibition”. Jacob studies the molecular mechanisms that could be targeted for repairing injured central nervous system, with the focus on the optic and cortico-spinal/thalamic circuits. Jacob also won the first-place award for his oral presentation at the 2026 UConn Health Graduate Student Research Day, where he presented “Novel Approaches for Experimental Axon Regeneration”. His first-author study, “Neurodevelopmental miR-135a-1-3p and miR-135b-3p promote long-distance axon regeneration after injury in the central visual pathway,” was also recently published in Cell Press’s Molecular Therapy Advances. Dr. Ephraim Trakhtenberg is the mentor of this F30 fellowship.
