Vision Research for Homeland Security in the Mohan lab

Peter Brown, a second-year medical student in the UConn School of Medicine, who is being mentored by Drs. Royce Mohan and Paola Bargagna-Mohan is studying how toxic chemicals cause injury to corneal nerves. Peter has received a prestigious travel award to present his latest findings at the 9th Military Vision Symposium at Harvard Ophthalmology/Mass Eye and Ear in Boston. Peter’s research delves into the study of chemical injury to corneal Schwann cells and their role in maintenance of the health of the nerves of the cornea, the most sensitive tissue of the human body. He will be presenting his exciting findings on an FDA approved drug that rescues the nervous tissue and aids in axonal regeneration. This research is funded by the National Eye Institute and the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases with support from the CounterACT program of NIH to the Mohan lab.
