Application Process

All applications are processed through ERAS. Applications are processed as early as September 15 and are accepted through December 1, though we advise submitting your application on September 15. All Applications are reviewed and should include: a completed ERAS form, Dean's Letter, Transcript, personal statement, and three Letters of Recommendation. General guidelines include the following:

  • USMLE Steps 1 and 2; passed on first attempt or COMLEX Levels 1 and 2 passed on first attempt. These scores must be part of the application. We welcome osteopathic applicants and do not require USMLE exams for graduates of osteopathic medical schools.
  • USMLE Step 2 CS or COMLEX Level 2 PE Clinical Skills Assessment must be completed prior to January 1.
  • Medical School graduation (including required internship) should be within three years of residency application.
  • Interviews are conducted from October through January and are conducted on Mondays and Fridays from 7:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • A casual dinner is held the evening prior to each interview date.
  • Only J-1 visas are available for those candidates who are not permanent residents. The University will NOT sponsor H1B visas.
  • United States, Canada, or United Kingdom clinical experience is desirable but not required for consideration.
  • Valid ECFMG certificate for graduates of foreign medical schools.
  • Application deadline is December 1, though interview slots fill quickly so we strongly suggest applying on September 15.

Interviews are by invitation only. Once the application is complete and reviewed, selected candidates will be invited to schedule an interview date though ERAS.

The interview day begins at approximately 7:45 a.m. and ends at approximately 2:30 p.m. The applicant will visit UConn Health and The Hospital of Central Connecticut. The day includes an opportunity to speak with faculty and house officers, and to tour the facilities. The applicant is welcome to return for a second visit.

All applicants considered for acceptance into any of the University of Connecticut’s Internal Medicine Programs will be scheduled for an interview with two faculty. The University of Connecticut selects from among eligible applicants on the basis of residency program-related criteria such as preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communication skills, and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity.
