I am from Metro Detroit, MI. My professional interests include pulmonary/critical care and cardiology and one of my personal goals is to establish a non-profit organization for medical relief missions. Outside of medicine, my hobbies are dancing, playing tennis and ping pong. I also love to travel and spend time with family and friends. I’m so excited to be part of UConn Health and to live on the East Coast!
Luisa Rivera-Bernacet, M.D.
I was born and raised in Utuado, Puerto Rico, localized between our mountains. From there, I moved to San Juan, PR where I got a bachelor’s degree in cellular molecular biology. I studied medicine at Universidad Central del Caribe localized in Bayamon, PR. Currently my main interest is to pursue a fellowship in endocrinology but among everything else, to be a great physician. My other interests include music, arts, soccer, and TV.
Plukshi Bhatt, D.O.
I was born in India and I grew up in Farmington, CT. I studied chemistry at the University of Connecticut and attended New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. I am interested in public health, global medicine, and hospital medicine. In my free time, I like spending time with my friends and family, going hiking, reading books, and trying out new recipes.
Brian Bustos, M.D.
Although I was born in Queens, New York, I grew up in Northern Virginia, minutes away from our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. After graduating from college at Marymount University, I moved to the Philippines to attend medical school at The University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center. My professional interests include primary care, hospital medicine, and recently, critical care medicine. Outside of the hospital, I enjoy staying active by playing basketball and strength training.
Christopher Dipollina, D.O.
I grew up in Waterford, Connecticut and went to the University of Connecticut as an undergraduate. I completed my masters and medical degrees at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL. I am very excited to return to my home state to complete my medical training! Professionally, I am interested in primary care and cardiology. My focuses outside of work include running, bicycling, cooking, visiting the beach, and watching movies.
David Huh, D.O.
I was born and raised in South Korea and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 12. Having completed undergraduate study and medical school in California, I am excited to continue my medical training in Connecticut. My current professional interests include palliative care and rheumatology. Outside the hospital, I enjoy skiing, hiking, and traveling.

I grew up in in different parts of India and am an avid supporter of the Indian cricket team. I graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College, India and I'm currently inclined to pursue a fellowship in the fields of either cardiology or rheumatology. Outside medicine, I enjoy exploring new music, movies, and trivia.

I was born and raised in Queens, New York. I completed medical school at New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. I love to travel and spend time with my family and friends. My hobbies include singing, reading, and bike riding. Professionally, I am interested in global health.
Eduardo Padrao, M.D.
I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. I completed medical school at University of São Paulo. As a good Brazilian, I love playing and watching soccer. My hobbies include jogging, playing soccer, playing the guitar and cooking. Professionally, I am interested in critical care.
Johanna Romo, M.D.
I was born and raised in Ecuador. I went to medical school at San Francisco de Quito University. My professional interests are primary care and rheumatology. Outside of medicine, I am passionate about music and also enjoy hanging out with family and friends.
Elio Santo, M.D.
I am from Miami, FL and I attended Florida International University for undergraduate. My professional interests are primary care and hospital medicine. I enjoy trying new cuisines with family and friends, exercising, playing sports, and the outdoors.
Sara Shteyman, D.O.
I grew up on Long Island and attended Tufts University for my undergraduate education. I then went to medical school back in New York at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. I am passionate about physician-patient partnerships and hope to one day work in a setting where I can partner with patients to improve their health over a longer period of time. When I am not practicing medicine I enjoy diving into challenging new recipes, trying new craft projects, yoga, and walking by the river.
Margaret (Maggie) Smythe, M.D.
I’m originally from Philadelphia, PA, but Connecticut marks the fourth state I’ve lived in! I attended college at Carleton College in Northfield, MN, medical school at Tulane University in New Orleans, and spent a year at Washington University in Saint Louis before moving to Connecticut for residency. I am interested in rheumatology. My hobbies include home renovation and interior design, cooking and baking, and I’m a big fan of Orange Theory Fitness.
Joshua Van Allan, D.O.
I was born in Seoul, South Korea and adopted by incredible parents who raised me in Williamsport, PA. I completed my undergraduate degree at Penn State University and my medical degree at West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. I enjoy spending time with my amazing wife and dog as well as watching and playing sports. My professional interests include hematology/oncology and infectious disease.
Lucas Versland, D.O.
After growing up locally in Farmington and Avon Connecticut, I moved out west and received a Doctorate of Osteopathy from Touro University in California. I am excited to be back in Connecticut to complete my training as an internal medicine physician. I hope to pursue a career in primary care. In my free time I enjoy swimming at Dunning Lake and doing computer programming.
David Wozny, D.O.
I was born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia. For the first two years of my undergraduate education I froze my toes at the University of Vermont then thawed them back in my birth state while I completed my degree. After graduating, I founded a clinical consulting company and discovered a passion for clinical research. I earned my medical degree in Virginia and am considering a GI fellowship. Outside of academics I enjoy woodworking, painting, and skiing.
