Within the Department of Neuroscience, investigators are involved in research addressing the function and pathology of vision and hearing. In our vision research, a major research area involves identifying molecules in the body responsible for regulating normal or dysfunctional vision. Once identified, we explore drugs that manipulate these molecules and evaluate their capacity as translational ocular therapeutics. In our hearing research, our investigators are exploring several aspects of binaural hearing and hearing diagnostics. These studies range from characterizing the anatomical and physiological underpinnings of binaural processing in animal models to developing, refining, and employing techniques to diagnose hearing impairments in patients.
