Understanding the nervous systems at the level of cellular units and molecular complexes is a fundamental goal of neuroscience. The Department of Neuroscience at UConn Health has a strong and growing commitment to understanding the integrative nature of molecular and cellular events in the nervous system. Our forefront areas of investigation include signal transduction cascades, membrane biogenesis and function, ion channel structure and function, and intracellular trafficking of RNA and proteins. This research is carried out using sophisticated physiological and imaging techniques in various experimental models in concert with advanced methods in genetics, biochemistry, proteomics, and bioinformatics.
In addition to the expertise in our department, there is pervasive strength in molecular and cellular science in many other departments throughout UConn Health, including the Departments of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Psychiatry.
