Objectives

To provide complex gynecologic and gynecologic oncology care in a third world setting with limited resources. The rotation will also offer the residents the opportunity to further develop their skills in cultural competency.

Responsibilities/Supervision

Under the direct supervision of a board-certified gynecologic oncology faculty member, the resident will provide outpatient and inpatient services including consultations, preoperative evaluations, surgical and post-operative care to patients at the St. George’s Hospital, St. George’s Grenada, WI. Services will be provided in the outpatient clinic (one day) and inpatient wards and operating room (five days).

Selection

Third year residents interested in participating in the one week rotation should notify Dr. Cosin and Dr. Johnson. The opportunity is offered twice each academic year. If there are more than two residents interested in the experience then applications will be accepted.

Group Surgery

Objectives

To provide complex gynecologic care in a third world setting with limited resources. To increase exposure to open surgical cases, specifically abdominal hysterectomies. The rotation will also offer the residents the opportunity to further develop their skills in cultural competency.

Responsibilities/Supervision

Under the direct supervision of a board certified OB/GYN faculty member, the resident will provide outpatient and inpatient services including consultations, preoperative evaluations, surgical and postoperative care to patients in Silay, Phillipines. Services will be provided in the outpatient clinic, inpatient wards and operating room.

Selection

Fourth year residents interested in participating in the one and half week rotation should notify Dr. Johnson. The opportunity is offered once each academic year. If there are more than 2 residents interested in the experience then applications will be considered based on the program need and opportunities for case load.
