UConn Health’s Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center will collaborate with hair salons to conduct one breast education session per month in the towns of West Hartford, Hartford, East Hartford, and Bristol to reach minority women 35 years and older. A one-hour education session held from 6 to 7 p.m. will entail UConn Health’s Cancer Center’s Community Health Specialist lecturing women about factors that may increase and decrease the risk of developing breast cancer, the importance of mammography screening and early detection, and facilities that provide screening services. Women will also have the opportunity to ask questions related to breast health and breast cancer and provide their contact information to the Community Health Specialist to receive assistance with scheduling a mammogram through UConn Health’s Community Breast Navigation Program or to contact the Breast Nurse Navigator.
