The Department of Medicine now offers a mentored research opportunity that can be pursued at the end of residency or fellowship. This is a clinical, non-tenure track position for a one-year period with option for renewal of an additional year (contingent upon progress and continued funding of the program). The Rising Scholar will have a clinical instructor appointment and will be committed to approximately 0.3 clinical full-time equivalent (cFTE), corresponding to three half day in primary care or subspecialty clinics. The remaining time will be committed to participation in research activities under the supervision of a primary mentor. Successful candidates will also engage in a self-directed program aimed to foster knowledge, skills and data, and to become versed in clinical or translational research. By the completion of the Rising Scholars Program, we expect that the participant will be able to become a successful independent investigator. It is an excellent opportunity for residents looking to develop a research portfolio prior to fellowship, or for fellows in pursuit of a clinician-investigator appointment.
