Dr. Andrew Harrison is a former graduate student in Dr. Penghua Wang’s lab and this paper entitled, “UBXN9 governs GLUT4-mediated spatial confinement of RIG-I-like receptors and signaling”, identifies a noncanonical, glucose independent role for GLUT4 in regulating antiviral immunity in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. Their work further highlights a unique relationship between GLUT4, interferon pathways and human inflammatory myopathies.
