At UConn Neurology, resident well-being is a priority. We promote a culture of support, respect and cultivation of growth. The program focuses on multiple domains of well-being including the physical, emotional, social, occupational and intellectual aspects of training. Our goal is to train a thriving team of residents who can continue to passionately facilitate high quality patient care and achieve personal excellence.

Resident Activities

  • Wellness chief who focuses on wellness and plans activities
  • $2,100 in wellness funds yearly for resident-led activities

Past activities included kayaking, bowling, Dave & Busters, axe throwing, and escape rooms!

  • Quarterly resident wellness afternoon in lieu of didactics – residents can spend time together doing activities, having a special lunch, or just relax
  • Monthly lunch with program director and leadership
  • Get-togethers at faculty homes
  • Graduation dinner
  • Graduation event for all residents, fellows and faculty
  • Hands-on workshops for education and team-building exercise

Resident Benefits

  • Four weeks of vacation/time off for conferences yearly
  • Conference reimbursement of up to $2,000
    (additional $2,000 funds available for residents presenting as first author at an additional conference)
  • $2,700 in education funds for education-related purposes such as books, computers, phones, USMLE 3
  • On-campus gym membership
  • Membership to American Academy of Neurology PGY2-4 and access to Continuum
  • Peer mentoring program – juniors are paired up with a senior mentor
  • Faculty professional and wellness mentoring program
  • Free, confidential counseling through UConn’s Employee Assistance Program
