PL-1 Victoria Moore
Victoria, tell us about yourself – where did you grow up and where did you go to school?
I am from Zionsville, Indiana and have lived in Indiana all my life. I attended Purdue University for undergrad where I majored in kinesiology. I got my master’s degree in biomedical science at Marian University in Indianapolis. I also attended Marian University Wood College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school.
Why did you choose our residency program?
It has been my dream for the past 10+ years of my life to live on the East Coast. During my 4th year of medical school, I did a rotation at Connecticut Children’s in the NICU and felt like I belonged out here. Connecticut Children’s had everything I wanted in a program: a stand-alone children’s hospital, good acuity, great teaching environment, level IV NICU. More importantly, the environment was uplifting and gave me a sense of belonging which is the most important aspect. I knew I could spend the next 3 years of my life training here and genuinely be happy.
Why did you want to be a pediatrician?
I’m drawn to pediatrics because I value the relationships I’m able to build with children and their families and the opportunity to be a clinical advocate for patients who often cannot fully advocate for themselves. More than anything, I want a career that feels meaningful and allows me to have a lasting impact. I love that children represent so much hope and possibility, and that caring for them means not only treating the patient in front of me but helping protect and shape the person they will become.
What have you liked best about your intern year at Connecticut Children's so far?
The best part of my intern year so far has been getting to spend so much time with the other interns. We all get along so well and there is no shortage of social gatherings to attend! They are all such great people, and we have all bonded so quickly in the short time we have known each other. I am excited to continue to train alongside them for the next 3 years!
What has been your favorite experience as a resident?
My favorite experience as a resident so far has been the intern retreat. We painted pottery and everyone’s creations were so good. It was so nice getting to spend time with our entire class!
What are you considering for your career after residency?
I am considering neonatology, newborn medicine, or pediatric hospital medicine! I enjoy inpatient medicine.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the hospital?
My favorite thing to do outside of the hospital is running because it is the best way to leave the stress of work behind and free my mind. I also enjoy going on walks while listening to Taylor Swift (you can catch me bopping along the Trout Brook Trail). My comfort show is Gilmore Girls which I will be rewatching as the weather gets colder to maximize the East Coast experience! I am excited to explore more of the East Coast. I have a trip to Maine planed with my sister and hope to explore Boston and NYC again as well! I also enjoy exploring new coffee shop, baking, and spending time with my co-residents!
