Our Mission

The Pediatrics Residency Program at the University of Connecticut is a three-year program accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education, leading to certification in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. The program has received full accreditation without ever receiving ACGME citations. Our mission is to train well-rounded physicians who will improve the health of children and adolescents through clinical excellence, research, teaching, community involvement, and advocacy.

Our History

Our residency program began in 1969.

The University of Connecticut has trained pediatricians who have cared for over 2 million children. Our graduates are prominent members of our local and national communities (including our current department chairman). We are proud to train residents from all over the United States. Our residency program also has a partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Iceland to train one pediatric resident each year.

We Value Our Residents

Our program is guided by recommendations from the Program Evaluation Committee (PEC). PEC is made up of residents, core faculty and led by the associate program directors. Proposals are presented by residents and/or faculty and this group makes recommendations for approval by the program director. Residents also have an opportunity to share concerns and recommendation at a business meeting with the chief residents held every block. We greatly value the input of our residents. Through these groups, as well as close personal interaction at all levels, the program continues to grow and change to meet the needs of residents.
