All applications are processed through ERAS. We begin reviewing applications as soon as they are released to the program. All applications should include: a completed ERAS form, MSPE, medical school transcript, personal statement, and three Letters of Recommendation. The internal medicine residency does a holistic review of applications but generally invited candidates will have the following:
- USMLE/COMLEX Parts 1 and 2; passed on first attempt (osteopathic students do not need both USMLE and COMLEX).
- Clinical experience in the United States, Canada or United Kingdom is desirable but not required for consideration.
- Medical school graduation (including required internship) within five years of match year. Certain exceptions may apply, typically for training done in other countries. Regardless, long gaps without clinical activity are generally disqualifying.
- Interviews are by invitation only. Selected candidates will be invited through Thalamus and schedule their interview there. Given the large number of applications we review, we typically send invitations in two blasts; the first in mid-late October, the second in early November. We typically announce this on Instagram. Thereafter, any spots that become unfilled due to cancellation are filled on a rolling basis.
- Valid ECFMG certificate for graduates of international medical schools (needed by the rank order list deadline).
We will be participating in the tiered signaling program during the 2025-2026 recruitment cycle. We receive a high volume of applications and intend to review both program and geographic signals to assist our goal of identifying qualified candidates who have a strong interest in training with us and serving our community. A program signal is not absolutely required, but to give you some idea of weighting, in the last cycle 6 of every 7 invited candidates signaled the program.
All interviews will be conducted virtually during the upcoming recruitment season. Interview information will be provided to invited candidates. All candidates will have the opportunity to speak with our residents outside of the formal interview day during a virtual meet & greet.
Our program does not discriminate with respect to gender, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, or any other applicable legally protected status.
Please note the University of Connecticut only sponsors J-1 visas for candidates who are not permanent residents.
