Welcome to the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at UConn Health and Connecticut Children’s.

The mission of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program is to train well rounded pediatric emergency medicine specialists who will improve the health of children and adolescents though clinical excellence, education, research, quality improvement, and advocacy.

Our Aims are:

1. To create highly-skilled clinicians capable of providing high-quality emergency care to sick and injured children.
2. To create excellent educators prepared share their expertise with trainees, colleagues, and the community at large.
3. To create physicians capable of identifying gaps in our current knowledge and pushing that knowledge forward through clinical research.
4. To produce graduates capable of leading within their team, their division, their hospital, and their community.

Our fellowship program is differentiated from other Pediatric Emergency Medicine programs based on:

• Our large volume patient population – 60,000 patients, level I trauma, wide variety of subspecialties, covering broad catchment area (including urban, suburban, and rural)
• Our diverse faculty which includes attendings who trained at 15 different fellowship programs and includes members with academic interests in all the niches within Pediatric Emergency Medicine
• Our inclusive clinical environment which values fellows as key members of the team and incorporates them into all aspects of ED operation, oversight, and quality improvement.
• Our supportive learning environment which provides fellows with a tight-knit supportive group of co-fellows as well as faculty and program leadership invested in fellow well-being
• Our close working relationships with the UConn Departments of both Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine which allows us to leverage the strengths of each.
• Our superior curricula in point-of-care ultrasound and simulation.

We take two fellows per year, and have a total of six Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellows at a time. We see over 60,000 patients per year in our emergency department at Connecticut Children’s, which creates a rich learning environment in which to train. We are a Level I trauma center and our hospital provides the full range of pediatric subspecialty care. Our faculty have come to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center from all over the country and includes mentors across all subspecialties within Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Particular strengths of our curriculum include robust training in point-of-care ultrasound and simulation. We think that Connecticut Children’s is a great place to train and are very proud our program, but at the same time are always looking for ways to improve it.
