Fellows participate in a weekly half-day session of general outpatient cardiology throughout all three years of fellowship. The clinic is designed to maintain continuity of care between general cardiology patients and fellows. First year fellows inherit a panel of patients from a graduating fellow and will continue to grow their panel by following patients seen in the hospital into the outpatient setting and seeing new outpatient consults. Each clinic session is supervised by an attending cardiologist, who precepts each patient visit and provides advice and feedback on patient care and management. The clinic is supported by a dedicated staff of schedulers, medical assistants, and nurses.
Patients seen in the fellows’ cardiology clinic at Hartford Hospital present great diversity and wide-ranging cardiovascular issues. By the end of fellowship, fellows will learn to autonomously manage a well-rounded panel of general cardiology patients.
