Fellowship Length and Rotations

Curriculum:

Year 1

2 Rotation Blocks in each of the following (1 Block = 4 weeks):

  • Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
  • Cardiac Consults
  • Echocardiography
  • Cardiac Catheterization
  • Electrophysiology

1 Rotation Block in each of the following:

  • Nuclear Cardiology
  • Preventive Cardiology
  • Congestive Heart Failure

Continuity Clinic:

  • Cardiology fellows see outpatients one afternoon a week starting July.

Year 2

2 Rotation Blocks in each of the following:

  • Nuclear Cardiology
  • Echocardiography
  • Cardiac Catheterization
  • Consults (General Consults, Electrophysiology, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit)

1 Rotation Block in the following:

  • Congestive Heart Failure

4 Elective Blocks

  • Electives can be selected depending upon the area of interest (including research). Away electives also available.

Continuity Clinic:

  • Cardiology fellows see outpatients one afternoon a week.

Year 3

2 Rotation Blocks in each of the following:

  • Nuclear Cardiology
  • Echocardiography

1 Rotation Block in the following:

  • Adult Congenital (Connecticut Children's Medical Center)
  • Congestive heart failure

8 Elective Blocks

  • Electives can be selected depending upon the area of interest (including research). Away electives also available.

Continuity Clinic:

  • Cardiology fellows see outpatients one afternoon a week

Conference Schedule

Summer Survival Lecture Series

  • Starts in July and covers all the essential topics for first year fellows over a 6 week time-frame.

Weekly Conferences:

  • Cardiac Catheterization
  • Electrophysiology
  • Cardiology Grand Rounds
  • Journal Club

Monthly Conferences:

  • Cardiac Consult/CCU Case Conference
  • Nuclear/Cardiac Catheterization Correlation Conference
  • Morbidity and Mortality
  • Nuclear Cardiology Lecture Series
  • Echocardiography Lecture Series
  • Congestive Heart Failure Series
  • EKG Conference
  • City Wide Conference (Combined UConn and Hartford Hospital Fellow Conference)
  • Echo Sonographers Conference

Each Fellow is required to present Grand Rounds as a third year and City Wide conference during their first and second year. Fellows are expected to present research conference once a year during their second and third years summarizing their completed or ongoing research projects.
