The psychotherapy track is a two-year elective experience available to any PGY2 through PGY4 resident. It includes a robust experience with a range of patients, using multiple psychotherapeutic modalities in a nurturing environment. Graduates of the program are well-prepared to enter advanced training in psychotherapy and to utilize various psychotherapies immediately after residency in their career of choice. Elements include:
- Additional psychotherapy patients and hours in PGY3 and PGY4 years (which may include specialty clinic experiences):
- Five (5) or six (6) weekly psychotherapy sessions during PGY3 year
- Four (4) weekly psychotherapy sessions during PGY4 year
- Weekly participation in the psychodynamic reading group for two years or more
- Three of the following activities:
- A year-long training in CBT as a PGY3 (this is typically selected for all track participants)
- Six to twelve months rotating at the VA PTSD Clinic
- Six to twelve months in the Graduate Student Mental Health Clinic
- Six months of DBT training and experience under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Meyer
- Six months of Interpersonal Therapy training and experience
- Participation at the Western New England Psychoanalytic Institute (25 hours or more)
- A scholarly accomplishment focused on psychotherapy (with approval of the track director)
