Hartford Hospital Cardiology Fellowship

Cardiology Fellowship Graduation 2019

Welcome to the Hartford Hospital-University of Connecticut Cardiovascular Fellowship Program.

My name is Lane Duvall and I am the program director.

Hartford Hospital, in central Connecticut, has been training cardiology fellows for almost 50 years. Originally as an independent fellowship, and over the last 3 decades under the umbrella of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

We are a 3 year ACGME accredited fellowship that is predominantly based at Hartford Hospital, a university affiliated tertiary care community hospital. Hartford Hospital is at the center of the Hartford HealthCare System, the premier health care provider for central, eastern, and more recently southern Connecticut. It comprises over 800 beds. Our hospital is the main teaching site for both medical students and the University of Connecticut School of Medicine GME programs. The large and growing Hartford HealthCare System allows for a robust volume of complicated patients being transferred for advanced and sophisticated cardiovascular care. In addition, we have a large group of patients with acute cardiac conditions arriving through one of the busiest emergency departments in New England.

The faculty is part of the Hartford HealthCare Heart and Vascular Institute and numbers 25 full time physicians and growing. It covers the important disciplines in cardiology, as outlined below. The faculty is a diverse group, originating from outstanding academic cardiology programs, in addition to our own, and are attracted to Hartford Hospital for the excellence in patient care and the opportunity to teach and do research with a bright and enthusiastic group of fellows.

Our training philosophy is to develop cardiology fellows to become outstanding cardiologists, in whatever discipline they choose, through an intense experience. Fellows take responsibility for a large and complicated group of patients in a structured and supportive teaching environment. The program has dedicated clinical, procedural and research rotations supplemented by a full schedule of conferences, and a highly regarded Simulation Center with advanced cardiology training modules and faculty.

Overall, the Cardiology Fellowship at Hartford Hospital, associated with the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, provides excellent training in cardiovascular medicine. We promise that you will have great training and become an outstanding cardiologist.
