- Mission: The mission of the pediatric hospital medicine fellowship program is to produce the next generation of academic pediatric hospitalists, characterized by expertise in the patient-centered clinical care of all children hospitalized for acute and or chronic illness, as a leader of and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team devoted to the health and well-being of pediatric inpatients. As future leaders in the field of academic pediatric hospital medicine, the fellowship seeks to inspire and instill skills in research, medical education, patient safety and quality improvement, advocacy, and healthcare administration that serve to advance the future of children’s health and healthcare delivery, and allow the fellow to respond to the changing needs of the future pediatric population.
- Aims: To accomplish this mission,
- Fellows perform clinical care in three different care settings, a quaternary-care hospital, and two different community inpatient settings to be exposed to the different landscapes of pediatric hospital medicine under board-certified pediatric hospital medicine faculty guidance.
- Fellows are exposed to a wide range of academic activities through a faculty with leadership roles and expertise in research, patient safety and quality improvement, medical education, and healthcare administration.
- Fellows are immersed in a culture of continuous quality improvement through formal curricula and integration into a robust, evidence-based clinical pathways program which serves as a national resource for the multidisciplinary clinical care of children hospitalized for common conditions through the standardization of best practice and reduction of unnecessary variation while reducing cost and promoting safe, effective, and consistent patient care.
- The program offers a variety of faulty development opportunities for pediatric hospital medicine clinical, academic, and professional development skills at the divisional and institutional level, and monitors faculty participation to ensure ongoing learning and skill refinement of program faculty.
