Connecticut Adult Congenital Heart Service – Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Rotation

The ACHD population continues to rise. The rotation is designed to expose the fellows to various aspects of congenital heart disease in adults. The rotation, done in the third year of fellowship, is based at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, and includes outpatient clinics with the ACHD team members, inpatient rounds and ACHD consults (which may be at Connecticut Children’s or Hartford Hospital), learning anatomy and physiology in the Pediatric Echo Lab and Cardiac MRI, as well as observing in the OR, cath lab, or EP lab at Connecticut Children’s. Fellows have the opportunity to attend the weekly multidisciplinary conference where surgical cases and upcoming deliveries of fetuses with prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease are discussed. This congenital rotation is supplemented with a monthly lecture series on congenital heart disease topics throughout the three years of fellowship.
