Fellow Well-Being

Adam, Hiba and Frank

The University of Connecticut Fellowship in Hand Surgery is committed to the well-being of our fellows. Faculty model and support a healthy work/life balance, and the program encourages fellows to prioritize their mental and physical health.

Well-being activities are arranged regularly based on the interests of the fellows themselves. Activities in the past have included participatory sports such as tennis, bowling, or golf, outdoor activities including hiking or fishing, and spectator sports such as baseball.

At the beginning of the year, the program director holds a welcome dinner for incoming fellows and their families. Over the course of the year faculty host fellows at social gatherings in their homes and in conjunction with our specialty society Annual Meeting. In addition, the program coordinates Hartford Hand Club dinners, affording fellows an opportunity to meet and socialize with other hand surgeons in the community.

Additional well-being resources:

  • Garage parking at Hartford Hospital
  • $2,000 travel funds (per fellow) to attend ASSH
  • Tickets to local arts and sporting events
  • Free counseling services

UConn School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education is committed to supporting the well-being of all our residents and fellows during their training program. Please visit the Graduate Medical Education Office Well-Being website for a full list of resources offered through UConn Health, the Capital Area Health Consortium, and the broader community.
