Currently, the program holds a fellowship lunch annually during which fellows are able to voice any concerns or comments in an open but formal way. Several times throughout the year, fellows and faculty get together for social engagements on various occasions off campus either at a restaurant, outdoor activities or a small gathering at a faculty members’ home.
The UConn School of Medicine is developing a comprehensive well-being initiative meant to be available for students as well as house staff. It is our goal to have fellows participate in these programs during the coming year. Examples include the availability of chair yoga sessions, on campus exercise facilities for a fee, at Hartford Healthcare for free, and at Saint Francis for a fee) and annual personal professional development sessions focusing on topics such as mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy and nutrition.
In addition, we utilize the fellows’ Tuesday afternoon protected educational time for program specific initiatives, such as group outdoor activities, on a limited but regular basis (e.g., biannually at a minimum).
UConn School of Medicine Graduate Medical Education is committed to supporting the well-being of all our residents and fellows during their training program.
