This one-year fellowship is designed to develop knowledge of sports medicine. We accept two fellows annually who have or will complete Family Medicine, Pediatrics or Internal Medicine residency training. There is an emphasis on teaching skills and the clinical research process, but clinical practice and sideline coverage exposure is a significant part of the fellowship. There will be opportunities for teaching medical students and residents with appropriate feedback provided. We encourage the participant to partake in clinically based research and academic presentations.
The primary care sports medicine fellows share sideline coverage for Division I UConn team sports including Football, Men’s & Women’s Basketball, Men’s & Women’s Soccer, Men’s & Women’s Ice Hockey, and Field Hockey, and care for all Division I student athletes in training room and student health clinics.
The fellows each have two high schools for which they provide sideline coverage for home football games and attend once weekly training room sessions for all high school student athletes. Additionally, the fellows cover the professional WNBA team, the Connecticut Sun, and perform mass event coverage at the Boston Marathon.
