Dual Fellowship (ACCM/ACTA) Track

UConn offers a Dual Fellowship in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology (ACTA) and Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine (ACCM), designed for anesthesiologists seeking advanced, multidisciplinary training. This two-year program provides comprehensive training in both Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine.

Trainees pursuing this combined pathway should review the official Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists (SOCCA) guidance for detailed information regarding application sequencing, timing, and match exception policies.

At UConn we typically begin the Dual Track with the ACCM Fellowship first, followed by the ACTA fellowship.

Instructions For Applicants:

  • Apply to one (either ACCM or ACTA) through the SF Match’s Central Application Service. Please make sure you mark the checkbox within the application indicating your interest in both fellowships.
  • We expect letters of recommendation from the residency program director, an ACCM faculty member, and an ACTA faculty member.
  • Personal statement conveying why you are interested in combined fellowship training.
  • Fill out our combined fellowship track supplemental questionnaire (required).

Applicants committing to more than one year of training at UConn may qualify for a match exception under SOCCA guidelines, allowing simultaneous offers for both fellowships within the SF Match framework. To activate this exception, both the Program and the Applicant must complete and submit the official SOCCA Program Exception Agreement Form and Applicant Exception Agreement Form.

Even after an exception agreement is approved, both parties are still required to register with the SF Match and rank each other to formalize the commitment.
