PGY2

Guy Gechtman, MD 160

Dr. Guy Gechtman was born and raised near Boston, MA. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Tufts University and his medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, NY. He completed his intern year in internal medicine at Boston Medical Center – Brighton. Dr. Gechtman is particularly passionate about medical education and enjoys mentoring and working with medical students.

Outside of medicine, Guy enjoys playing the tenor saxophone, competing in chess tournaments, pickup basketball, and collecting vintage trading cards. He also speaks Russian as a second language.

Aakash Jain, MD 160

Dr. Aakash Jain was born in Norwood, MA, and spent most of his childhood growing up in Phoenix, AZ. He majored in Economics and Biology at Duke University before attending the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine for medical school. Prior to joining the UConn radiology residency program, Aakash completed a Transitional Year at Lexington Medical Center in Columbia, SC. In his free time, Aakash enjoys cooking, playing chess & tennis, and watching sports.

Dr. Youssef Beshay

Dr. Youssef Beshay was born in Faiyum, Egypt before his family immigrated to the United States where they settled in West Covina, California. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at The University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Youssef then completed his medical degree at UConn. Following his medical education, he completed his Transitional Year Internship in Las Vegas, Nevada at Sunrise GME - Mountain View Hospital before returning to UConn for his radiology residency. Youssef enjoys spending time outdoors either hiking locally or exploring national and state parks, photography, reading, cooking, discovering new music, and traveling.

Dr. Arnika Karthik

Dr. Arnika Karthik was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. Arnika completed her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Florida, Tampa. She then attended the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine where she earned her medical degree. Following medical school, she completed her internship as a transitional year resident at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Florida. In her free time, Arnika enjoys hiking, dancing, trying out new restaurants, obsessing over Instagram cat videos, and spending time with her family and friends.

Dr. Nadav Mortman

Dr. Nadav Mortman was born and raised in Sharon, Connecticut. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Boston College. Nadav then completed his Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University School of Medicine. He came back to Connecticut to attend the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where he earned his medical degree. Following his medical education, he completed his internship as a transitional year resident at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY. Nadav’s hobbies and interests include skiing, running and playing the piano.

Dr. Keerthana Sharma Anand

Dr. Keerthana Sharma Anand was born and raised in Bangalore, India. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S.) degree from Bangalore Medical College, India. In 2022, Keerthana then moved to Connecticut, where she completed her PGY1 and PGY2 residency years, including her preliminary year with the UConn Internal Medicine program. Keerthana’s hobbies include reading, watching tennis (ardent fan of Rafa Nadal), traveling to tennis tournaments, and being close to nature. She loves cats, wildlife, and nature conservation. Keerthana plays a musical instrument called the Veena. She also wrote a novel called ‘The Keriyads’ when she was 13, it is a work of historical fiction.

Dr. Kevin Haines

Dr. Kevin Haines was born and raised here in Connecticut just outside Hartford. He attended the University of Connecticut where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Kevin then lived in Ghana working for an NGO to provide primary care access to developing communities in conjunction with the national and regional healthcare sectors. Kevin attended medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME. He completed PGY1 and 2 in General Surgery at the New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in Park Slope. Now he has returned home.

Kevin pursues a number of hobbies with the support of his SO, including cooking, Kintsugi, golf, New Yorker crossword puzzles, and searching for Costco deals.

Dr. Racquel Helsing

Dr. Racquel Helsing was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of Connecticut. She then attended the University of Connecticut School of Medicine where she earned her medical degree. Following her medical education, she completed her internship as a transitional year resident at Eastern Connecticut Health Network in Manchester, CT.

In her free time, she enjoys all things outdoors including kayaking, hiking, biking, and playing in the park with her miniature dachshund Benjamin. She also enjoys cooking, curating charcuterie boards, and collecting vintage vinyl records.
