The REDCap maintenance schedule is essential to ensure the functionality, security, and reliability of the systems. This includes:
- Routine Monthly Maintenance: Performed on the last Thursday of each month from 4:00–6:00 PM for security patches and bug fixes. Both the REDCap Production and Development systems are unavailable during this time.
- Biannual REDCap Version Upgrades: Conducted during the same 4:00–6:00 PM window, replacing the routine monthly maintenance for that period. Both systems are unavailable during these upgrades.
- Annual Server Updates: Conducted in two phases—one month for the Development system (no participant disruption) and the following month for the Production system. These updates, in addition to routine monthly maintenance, are scheduled on Thursdays from 4:00–7:00 PM. Performed annually, specific dates may vary.
- Emergency Upgrades: Occasionally required for critical bug fixes or urgent security issues.
These updates are critical to maintaining REDCap’s functionality, safeguarding data security, and ensuring HIPAA compliance, all of which are essential for supporting research activities.
Please Note: Adjustments to this schedule may be made when holidays or unforeseen circumstances require changes.

We STRONGLY recommend all users download and save a backup of their project and data (data dictionary, export all data, XML files, PDF collection) routinely and BEFORE any scheduled update. For more information: Managing Your Data.
The UCH IT Network/Server Team conducts routine institutional server patching on the third Sunday of each month at 3 AM. If this falls on a holiday weekend, the maintenance is postponed to the following Sunday. During this time, REDCap Production may experience intermittent connectivity issues.
