Adult Psychiatric Outpatient Services
The Adult Psychiatric Outpatient Services Clinic offers evaluation and treatment of a wide range of psychiatric disorders for adults ages 18 and over, under the auspices of UConn John Dempsey Hospital. The clinic is handicapped accessible, offers free parking and is located in a modern office building just off the main UConn Health campus in Farmington.
We provide essential psychiatric services for approximately 2,500 active patients (nearly 18,000 patient visits annually) who come from all over the state of Connecticut, as many as 75 percent of whom are insured by Medicare and/or Medicaid. We are therefore one of the larger public sector psychiatric clinics in the state. UConn John Dempsey Hospital is licensed by the Connecticut Department of Public Health and accredited by the Joint Commission.
Our treatment approaches include medication evaluation and management, as well as individual, family, and group psychotherapy for patients who are likely to benefit from these interventions. Treatment is goal-oriented, using approaches that are supported by clinical research and focused on symptom relief and overall wellness.
Our provider staff includes psychiatric residents supervised by faculty psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, clinical psychologists, social workers and other licensed psychotherapists, all practicing in a collaborative, team environment. The clinic is an essential component of the Psychiatry Department of UConn Health as a whole, and we work closely with our clinical partners on the inpatient units at UConn John Dempsey Hospital.
Referral and Admission Process
Referrals can be made only by UConn Health physicians at this time. Callers are encouraged to contact our clinic at 860-679-6700 and choose the option for intake evaluations. Our experienced support staff will return the call at the earliest opportunity and will ask providers to undergo a brief phone screening. We may also request that information from past psychiatric treatment be provided to help ensure that our clinic is in the best position to offer assistance.
Although our office hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, the clinic offers evening appointments on Monday and Tuesday until 7 p.m. Most major insurance plans are accepted and a sliding fee scale is also available for persons who are uninsured or have a limited ability to pay for treatment.
