The Connecticut Children’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee is comprised of residents, fellows, attending faculty and hospital staff who are focused on expanding the diversity and inclusion within the Pediatric Training Programs to include participants from groups underrepresented in medicine (URM), and to become more representative of the populations we serve. In doing so, we hope to increase interest of URM applicants to our fellowship program, create an environment where URM fellows feel supported and provide our patients with physician role-models.
The Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Program has its own diversity and inclusion committee within the Pulmonary Division comprised of administrative, nursing, respiratory therapy, medical assistants as well fellow and attending staff. The committee meets monthly and selects a topic of the month to raise awareness of our diverse division. We have a word of the day in a foreign language for the division to learn that is presented at our daily huddle. To raise our knowledge of world events we have sponsored a child through Save The Children. Lastly, we are featuring different team members to share their personal history, culture so we can celebrate our similarities as well as our differences.
