Program Overview

The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program at the UConn School of Medicine and Connecticut Children’s prepares individuals to become leaders in the field by providing the highest quality training in the diagnosis and treatment of blood and cancer disorders through exceptional clinical care and research. Through our unique collaboration with Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in nearby Farmington, we offer research opportunities in state-of-the-art genomics and mouse genetics laboratories to prepare physician scientists as well as expert clinicians to engage in precision oncology research. Fellows also will have the opportunity for additional training in the diagnosis and management of bone marrow transplant through rotations at Boston Children's Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The division has ten board-certified faculty. Clinical staff include 4 social workers, 14 advance practitioners, 14 outpatient nurses. Within our Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, we offer pediatric patients exceptional clinical care, access to novel therapies and clinical trials, family support programs and a state-of-the-art outpatient infusion center. We have programs for adolescent and young adult (AYA), supportive care, sarcomas, hematological malignancies, palliative care, fertility and sexual health, cardio-oncology and a wide range of non-malignant blood disorders including sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, thalassemia, and hypercoagulable conditions. We also have dedicated clinics for sickle cell disease, hemostasis, adolescent bleeding and clotting clinic, neuro-oncology and survivorship. Connecticut Children’s is home to a full range of pediatric subspecialties and ancillary services.
