Dual Fellowship Track (Cardiac Anesthesia and Critical Care)

Fellows interested in advanced multidisciplinary training may apply for the Combined Cardiac Anesthesia and Critical Care Fellowship, which provides an integrated two-year experience in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine.

Trainees pursuing a dual or sequential fellowship in Critical Care Medicine and Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia should refer to the official Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists (SOCCA) guidance for details regarding application sequencing, timing, and match exception policies.

UConn typically offers the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship first, followed by the Cardiac Anesthesiology Fellowship.

Dual applicants are eligible for a match exception under SOCCA guidelines if they commit to training at UConn for more than one year. This formal exception allows the program to offer both positions simultaneously within the SF Match framework. Both the program and applicant must complete and submit the official Program Exception Agreement Form and Applicant Exception Agreement Form through SOCCA.

Even after an exception agreement is finalized, both parties must still register with the SF Match and rank each other to formalize the commitment.
