Therapeutic Plasmapheresis
At UConn Health, the plasmapheresis program spearheaded by the nephrology division, stands out for its comprehensive approach to both inpatient and outpatient care. Inpatients benefit from state-of-the-art facilities and expert clinical teams that provide acute and complex plasmapheresis treatments for conditions such as autoimmune disorders and renal failure. Meanwhile, the outpatient plasmapheresis services offer a seamless, patient-centered experience, ensuring that individuals with chronic conditions receive ongoing care with minimal disruption to their daily lives. This dual approach underscores UConn Health's commitment to delivering cutting-edge treatments and personalized care across all levels of need.
Continuity Clinic
The continuity clinic is a cornerstone of nephrology fellowship training, providing fellows with invaluable, hands-on experience in managing long-term patient care. This clinic allows fellows to build ongoing relationships with patients, fostering a deep understanding of chronic kidney diseases, glomerulonephritides, ADPKD and their progression over time. By consistently following patients through their treatment journeys, fellows gain critical insights into the impact of various therapies, refine their diagnostic skills, and enhance their ability to develop and implement comprehensive management plans. This continuity not only strengthens their clinical acumen but also prepares them to deliver consistent, patient-centered care in their future practices, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the complexities of nephrology. We have opted to adhere with this model rather than intermittent sub-specialized clinics that do not allow for long term longitudinal patient care.
