Becoming a Resident

Thank you for your interest in the UConn School of Medicine-sponsored ECHN Residency Program.

Residency training is an exciting step in your medical career, and we are glad that you are considering us as your home for that training. We are confident that our training programs will prepare you to be an outstanding physician.

How To Apply

Our residency programs utilize the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and applicants are encouraged to apply early. The following supporting documents are required and should be directed to ERAS:

  • Curriculum vitae
  • Dean’s letter
  • Personal statement
  • Recent photo (passport type and size)
  • Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your clinical performance
  • USMLE or COMLEX transcript, with scores

Interviewing

Interviews begin in October and end mid-December. Once your application has been reviewed, the department coordinators will contact you with a list of available interview dates.

Matching & Onboarding

Our Residency Programs participate in the NRMP Match.

After Match day, you will receive information from the coordinator for your program. This information will detail the process to become an Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN) employee and resident physician.

You will also receive an offer letter and/or a resident employment agreement.

ECHN hosts a two week orientation in the month of June for all new residents. During orientation, you will receive all the tools to successfully begin your first year of residency.
