Chief of Cariology, Emeritus

Dr. Thompson is Chief Emeritus in Division of Cardiology and sees patients in the Cholesterol Management Clinic, The Athletes Heart Program and continues to be active in Cardiovascular Research at Hartford Hospital and Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut.

He previously was Profession of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh from 1992 to 1997 and on the faculty of Brown University from 1978 to 1992. He has authored over 160 scientific articles on topics which include: the effects of exercise training on preventive and treating heart disease; the risk of sudden death during exercise; the effects of statins on muscle function, and genetic factors affecting the exercise response. These research efforts have been supported by grants from foundations, the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health. He was also an Associate Editor of the Textbook on Cardiovascular Medicine and the Editor of the book, Exercise and Sports Cardiology. He is a Past President of the American College of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Thompson’s research and clinical interests in exercise originate from his personal interest in distance running. He qualified for the 1972 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in Eugene, Oregon and finished 16th in Boston Marathon in 1976.

Dr. Duvall is the Director of Nuclear Cardiology at Hartford Hospital and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut.

Received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. His internal Medicine training was done at Duke University Medical Center and cardiology fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan. Active clinically in Nuclear Cardiology, Echocardiography, Structural Heart team, Cardiac CTA.

Antonio Fernandez, M.D.

Preventive Cardiology Fellowship, Program Director

Dr. Fernandez is the Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Hartford Hospital.

Obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela School of Medicine in Caracas Venezuela. He completed a rotation internship in Venezuela before performing clinical clerkship in Internal Medicine at Lariboisiere Hospital, Paris, France. He did his internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut. After his residency at UConn he was in non-invasive cardiology at Yale. He completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Brown University. Active clinically in Preventive Cardiology, Athletes Heart Program, CICU, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr. McMahon is the Associate Director of Echocardiography and Director of Quality for Cardiology at Hartford Hospital.

Received his undergraduate degree from St. Lawrence University and medical degree from SUNY Upstate School of Medicine. His Internal Medicine training and Cardiology Fellowship were done at The University of Vermont. Active clinically in Echocardiography, Structural Heart team, Nuclear Cardiology.

Dr. Saucier is Associate Director of Preventive Cardiology; Co-Director of Women’s Heart Wellness Program; Medical Director of Cardiac Rehabilitation, Hartford Region.

Dr. Saucier received her undergraduate degree from Quinnipiac University and medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. Her internal medicine training was done at University of Connecticut. She completed Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at the University of Connecticut, Hartford Hospital. She is active clinically in Preventive Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiac Rehab, and the Women’s Heart Wellness Program.

Dr. Nadig received her medical degree of Bangalore Medical College, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Her internal medicine training was done at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland. She completed Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship training at Emory University. She is active clinically in Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology, Cardiac CTA, Cardiac MRI.
