Program Description

The Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Fellowship is designed to provide a clinically driven in and out patient experience. The fellow will develop essential skills in the diagnosis and management of patients with heart failure. The fellows will be exposed to various methods in diagnosis and treatment in both the in and out patient arena. They will learn the appropriateness of these tests and their limitations. The fellows will also learn how to best manage these complex patients at their varying levels of illness. The fellow will be exposed to the following management issues:

  • Diagnosis of heart failure utilizing imaging, non-invasive and invasive modalities.
  • Modalities used to make the diagnosis included physical exam and echocardiography.
  • Understanding of pharmacotherapy.
  • Understanding of device therapy.
  • Evaluation of patients for heart transplant.
  • Evaluate of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and biventricular assist device (BiVAD).
  • Right heart endomyocardial biopsy.
  • Use of outpatient infusion therapies.
  • Research of clinical and translational medicine for heart failure.

Program Requirements

Prior completion of a three year Cardiovascular fellowship program.
