Dr. Gonzalez has been involved in medical education since the beginning of his career. After completing his residency, Dr. Gonzalez served in the US Navy for three years where he was activly involved in supervising psychiatry residents and interns at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth VA.

Following his military service, Dr. Gonzalez joined the faculty at Yale University School of Medicine where he served as Director of the Emergency Psychiatric Services/Crisis Unit and Dana Outpatient Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital. During this time, he also served as an Assistant Director for the Consultation-Liaison Service of the hospital.

From there, Dr. Gonzalez joined the University of Connecticut School of Medicine's Department of Community Medicine. He became the Medical Director of the Capital Region Mental Health Center in Hartford CT, and held that position for nine years.

Dr. Gonzalez has been involved in different clinical, supervisory and administrative roles in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine, ranging from Medical Directorships and Chairman of Psychiatry at St, Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford CT. Most recently, he has joined ECHN and is attending for the Dual Diagnosis Inpatient Psychiatric Unit at the Manchester Memorial Hospital Campus.

Following Naval Service, he took a position at Yale University School of Medicine as the Director of the Emergency Psychiatric Services/Crisis Unit and Dana Outpatient Clinic. In addition, he was Assistant Director for the Consultation-Liaison Service.

Later, he moved to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine (Department of Community Medicine). During this time, he was the Medical Director of the Capital Region Mental Health Center in Hartford, CT, for 9 years.

Since then, he has been involved in different clinical, supervisory, and administrative roles in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine: including Medical Directorships and Chairman of Psychiatry at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, CT.

He recently joined ECHN and is the attending physician for the Dual Diagnosis inpatient psychiatric unit at the Manchester Campus.

Dr. Gonzalez completed his Master in Public Health from the Harvard University School of Public Health, Boston, MA. He is recognized as a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.

Dr. Shawn Joseph is board-certified in General Psychiatry and is board eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He attended the University of Connecticut where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. Dr. Joseph completed his medical school education at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in General Psychiatry at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA where he was recipient of 2 Outstanding Scholar Awards. Dr. Joseph then completed his fellowship in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut Health Center where he served as Clinic and Administrative Chief his final year.

In 2022 Dr. Joseph joined ECHN as a Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist. He primarily sees patients both on the Inpatient Adolescent Unit and through the Child & Adolescent Ambulatory Behavioral Health Services. Dr. Joseph currently serves as faculty for medical students at UCONN and UNECOM. He also took on the role as Site Director for UCONN medical students for their Psychiatry clerkship at ECHN.

Dr. Joseph is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Kaur began her studies at Government Medical College in Patiala, India before coming to the US to complete her residency at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, NY in 2011. Dr. Kaur pursued a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Institute of Living in Hartford, CT.

Dr. Kaur joined ECHN in 2016 as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at  Rockville General Hospital Child & Adolescent Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic. In 2020, Dr. Kaur became Medical Director of Child and Adolescent Outpatient Behavioral Health Services.

Dr. Kaur is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Connecticut Psychiatric Society.

Nayyara Malik, MD

Dr. Malik is board certified in General Psychiatry, Child/Adolescent Psychiatry, and Addiction medicine.

After completing her fellowship, Dr. Malik worked as an attending psychiatrist. She later transitioned into the role of Medical Director for Opioid Treatment and Physician Lead of Addiction Medicine at Trinity Health of New England.

Dr. Malik has extensive experience in treating psychiatric disorders among the adult, child and adolescent population as well as substance use disorders in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

She joined ECHN in January 2024 as an attending psychiatrist and core faculty for the ECHN Psychiatry Residency Program. She also chairs the Curriculum Review Committee for the Psychiatry residency program.

After completing his training, Dr. Sadiq Naveed served as Associate Medical Director at KVC Health System and worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center. In August 2020, he joined the Institute of Living in Connecticut, as Inpatient Lead Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist.

Dr. Naveed joined ECHN in September 2022 to establish the Psychiatry residency program, and he currently serves as the Program Director. He has completed a Master's in Public Health from Benedictine University and an Infant-Parent Mental Health fellowship at the University of Massachusetts.

Dr. Naveed currently serves as editor of BMC Psychiatry and has authored several peer-reviewed publications. He also serves as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac University.

Dr. Naveed been recognized as the fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Trisha Pesce was born and raised in eastern Connecticut and has completed all her training locally; including the University of Connecticut for undergraduate studies, medical school, and general psychiatry residency. She attended the Institute of Living in Hartford, CT for her Child and Adolescent Fellowship. Prior to providing outpatient care to children and adolescents at ECHN, Dr. Pesce gained experience in both inpatient and partial hospitalization programs throughout the eastern half of the state.

In 2014, Dr. Pesce joined ECHN as an outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Although she keeps part-time office hours, she continues to serve hundreds of families in the community each year.

Dr. Pesce is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists. She enjoys volunteering at her local church during her free time.

Dr. Qureshi has been actively involved in teaching medical students and residents.

Previous to joining ECHN's Psychiatry Residency Program, he served as a Department Chair and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Qureshi has also served as Clerkship Director and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Ritu Sehgal, MD

Throughout Dr. Ritu Sehgal's medical education, she was recognized for being the most outstanding intern in Psychiatry, and as Chief Resident in her residency years, found her administrative experience extremely valuable.

Since 2010, Dr. Ritu Sehgal has primarily been serving as an Outpatient Psychiatrist at ECHN's Adult Ambulatory Behavioral Health Clinic in Manchester. In 2020, she became Medical Director. Since her journey at ECHN began, she has enjoyed working with family medicine residents and medical students from University of New England.

Dr. Sehgal has also been appointed the Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut.

Howard Weiner, MD

Dr. Weiner is originally from the Detroit area and attended the University of Michigan for undergraduate and all of his medical training, including residency and fellowship. Dr. Weiner has extensive experience working with patients with a wide range of psychiatric illnesses.

His career consists of providing services to different psychiatric facilities, including his tenure as a Medical Director and Chairman of Psychiatry at Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel, NY.

He joined ECHN in July 2024 as a faculty to work on the Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Unit.
