About FastTrack
The UConn Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) program offers a FastTrack (4+1 B.A./B.S.-M.P.H.) option for qualified undergraduate students, allowing them to complete their bachelor’s degrees in any UConn-approved discipline and the M.P.H. degree within 5 years of their initial matriculation as undergraduates.
Why FastTrack?
If you have a strong interest in working in the growing field of public health on such topics as health promotion, epidemiology of infectious or chronic diseases, environmental health, or biostatistics, the FastTrack to the M.P.H. could be a great match for you!
FastTrack students earn their M.P.H. in roughly half the time and at two-thirds the cost of those who start after graduation! Become part of a nationally-accredited graduate program often recognized for its innovative curriculum and join more than 900 UConn M.P.H. graduates who are making significant contributions to local, national and international health! Through the FastTrack program, you’ll gain knowledge and experience on:
- the social and environmental determinants of health
- techniques for collection and analysis of data to improve the health of communities
- design and evaluation of interventions to reduce risks and promote health within communities
- advocacy for and with communities on social policies to enhance community well-being
- support of health partners and other stakeholders tackling complex health concerns
How does FastTrack work?
The program is intended for students entering their junior year of college who are able over the next 4 semesters to enroll in 15-18 credits of graduate coursework while they simultaneously complete their baccalaureate degree requirements. Students enroll in PUBH 5408 – Epidemiology & Biostatistics I and PUBH 5409 – Epidemiology & Biostatistics I while they are Juniors and PUBH 5403 – Health Administration, PUBH 5406 – Public Health Law, PUBH 5404 – Environmental Health and PUBH 5405 – Social Foundations of Public Health as Seniors. Courses are completed on the Storrs Campus utilizing iTV connectivity to the UConn Health campus. Upon earning the baccalaureate degree, FastTrack students complete remaining M.P.H. requirements with other M.P.H. candidates on the UConn Health campus. The following table outlines a likely FastTrack plan of study.

How to Apply?
The FastTrack program is intended for students who have maintained a strong academic record (a minimum 3.25 GPA through 4 semesters of college), a personal background and/or experiences that are relevant to the program, a commitment to the health of the community and a well-conceived reason to participate.
To be considered, you must submit the FastTrak application by April 1 which includes:
- a personal statement that summarizes your career plans and what has influenced your decision
- your experiences to date with public health and community service
- honors/awards/recognition for work completed in public health or community service
- a self-assessment of your academic and interpersonal strengths and weaknesses
Submit or email the application, including your personal statement, to Barbara Case, bcase@uchc.edu. You will not use the UConn online application system.
