Blood Bank

The UConn John Dempsey Hospital Blood Bank is a full-service laboratory serving a diverse population of patients including the UConn Health Surgery Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Adult Ambulatory Clinic, Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the general inpatient population. The Blood Bank provides blood components accurately and in a timely fashion.

The Blood Bank currently performs testing on over 13,000 samples per year while transfusion approximately 10,000 blood and blood components per year. The quality of work performed in the Blood Bank is directly related to the quality of its staff. All Blood Bank medical technologists are certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists with an average of 20 years of experience.
