Planning for Pregnancy Classes
Because we want you to be as comfortable and confident as possible in the days leading up to your baby's birth, during labor and when it's time to go home, UConn Health offers these preparing for pregnancy classes so you can learn what to expect.
Classes are only open to UConn Health patients. There is no cost to take these classes. Classes are held online via Zoom.
Baby Care
In this class you will learn what to expect in the immediate newborn period, topics discussed will be normal newborn characteristics, how to bathe your baby, how to change a diaper, swaddle, bottle feeding, and newborn testing that will be performed during your postpartum stay.
Prenatal Breastfeeding Class
A free class offered on breastfeeding for expectant parents led by a certified lactation consultant. Discussion topics include the benefits of breastfeeding, how to get started, and how the rest of the family can help the breastfeeding mother as well as how to continue breastfeeding and working.
Childbirth Education Class
The class will cover anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and labor, emotions of pregnancy, nutrition, fetal growth and development, comfort measures for labor, working with unexpected events in labor, cesarean delivery as well as practice of relaxation and breathing techniques for labor.
Online registration of classes is provided by TouchNet. TouchNet recommends using Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge when accessing the web-based TouchNet products and services. TouchNet does not recommend using Internet Explorer.
