The Division of Gastroenterology has a long tradition of combining high quality clinical care with education and research. In the last five years the division has rebuilt and expanded. Three new faculty members were recruited. The fellowship program was expanded from a complement of six to nine fellows. Endoscopy volume has increased more than 75 percent, and new clinical services such as advanced endoscopy, an Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center and a Motility Center have been added. The division continues to provide support for the Colon Cancer Prevention Program in collaboration with the Carole and Ray Neag Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The division has successfully collaborated on research funding with multiple partners including The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine, the Center for Molecular Medicine at UConn Health, and the Medical College of Wisconsin. The division also continues to run an endowed hepatology research laboratory and has served as a site for multiple industry-sponsored clinical studies.
