UConn School of Social Work

I was born in Norwich, Connecticut and raised in the small town of Sprague, Connecticut. I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut in human development and family studies.

I have worked in Hartford, Connecticut directly with undeserved fathers and their preschoolers, teaching them how to cook healthy meals. I have also worked with Cooking Matters, a program for which I would first teach preschoolers about good nutrition, then come together with both them and their fathers in order to cook a delicious and nutritious meal. The families would get to go home with bags full of nutritious groceries.

I want to use my social work skills to work with children and their families on a number of health issues. Frequently, environmental determinants have outsized effects on people’s health; I want to help people find access to healthcare, transportation, good housing, and affordable insurance with low co-pays, all social and environmental determinants easy to overlook in the daily practice of healthcare. I believe healthcare is a human right and no American should go without it, and I hope to provide for this ubiquity through education on healthy lifestyles and healthy environments.
