UConn School of Medicine Class of 2016

I am from Ledyard, Conn. and received a B.S in Chemistry and Physiology and Neurobiology from UConn. I’ve been able to take alternative volunteering spring breaks to New Orleans, La. and Immokalee, Fla., and serve as an ER volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford and at Backus Hospital in Norwich. The current changes in healthcare policy have highlighted for me the growing issue of providing health care for underserved, urban population. After volunteering in Hartford and other areas of the country, I developed a deep interest in health disparities and preventative medicine. UST is a great platform for learning about health inequalities and how they affect certain socio-economic and cultural groups. What is particularly unique about UST is its interdisciplinary approach. I look forward to developing my collaborative skills and increasing my knowledge on the workings of each discipline. The hands-on experience as well as the learning retreats will prepare me to become the sensitive, knowledgeable physician that can provide the quality primary care and advocacy that underserved populations deserve!
