Alison Chamberlain

Quinnipiac University Physician Assistant

I was born and raised in Cumberland, Rhode Island! I earned my bachelors degree from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA in Health Services with minors in neuroscience, psychology and healthcare ethics.

Some of the major volunteer experiences I participated in were Women in Transition, a non-profit organization which provides resources for women experiencing transitions from situations of domestic violence and substance abuse; Project Sunshine which helped provide activities and care kits for children facing challenges in medical facilities and Service-Learning with youth of the Philadelphia education system where I collaborated with children in elementary school to work toward their end of year science fair projects. My relevant work experience includes working as an Emergency Department Technician, EMT-B; Urgent Care Medical Assistant; PCA in an assisted living facility and a Student Health Center Assistant at Saint Joseph’s University. My favorite part of my experiences so far has been being able to meet a diverse group of individuals from many different walks of life.

I sought involvement in UST/AS to become directly involved with health promotion and advocacy within my community. I have always wanted to participate in health promotion in some regard or another, but there have been barriers that have prevented me from doing so – such as being a college athlete and having conflicting schedules with the local health promotor clinics. I feel like there is no better time than the present to become involved in something I feel so passionate about. I expect that from gaining experience through UST/AS I will be the provider I have always wanted to become; someone who is well acquainted with the challenges that encompass our world today including health policy, health equity and leadership through such essential components of healthcare. I believe that the experience I will gain from UST/AS will allow me to further understand barriers to health equity and how to overcome those in practice.
