Primary Care Independent Learning Opportunity

CT AHEC is sponsoring an ILO (Independent Learning Opportunity) for 1st- and 2nd-year dental and medical students. The ILO is Exploring the Nexus of Primary Care, Population and Public Health and runs Friday, November 9, 2018 through Friday, November 16, 2018. We are excited to offer this ILO which encompasses a variety of experiences, speakers and perspectives.

The CT AHEC ILO offers participation in:

  • The National Primary Care Week banquet featuring Lucile Burgo-Black, M.D., from VA Connecticut Healthcare and Yale School of Medicine;
  • Visit Community Health Center Association of CT (CHCACT, Cheshire) to learn from and with clinicians and policymakers engaged in REAL TIME practice transformation at Connecticut's community health centers;
  • Visit the Keney Park Sustainability Project site (Hartford) to learn from leadership about community-based advocacy and organization methods to address health disparities;
  • A meeting/interaction with staff and leadership of the Hartford Department of Health and Human Service to learn about the nexus of the health care delivery and public health systems in optimizing population health for an urban mid-size city (Hartford);
  • An afternoon of service at community health fair sites across CT serving vulnerable populations.
