REDCap Training Center

Welcome to the REDCap Training Center

Want to learn how to build your own REDCap projects, instruments, and surveys?
Ready to take your projects to the next level with branching logic, alerts & notifications, and survey scheduling?
Looking to enhance your surveys and forms using REDCap’s advanced internal features?

REDCap provides a streamlined, web-based environment for rapidly building and managing research projects, with flexible tools that support a wide range of data collection strategies — no programming or database experience required.

Because REDCap is designed as a self-service platform, one of the best ways to learn the system is through hands-on use within your own account. To help users get started and continue building their skills, we strongly encourage taking advantage of the free training materials and resources provided below. These structured training modules, step-by-step guides, videos, and support materials introduce core concepts, highlight key functionality, and provide practical resources users can return to throughout the lifecycle of their projects.

Tutorial Videos

If you are new to REDCap, built-in training videos are available on a variety of topics, including:

  • Just Getting Started: Overviews of fundamental concepts and features
  • Building a Project: How to build and modify data collection instruments
  • Basic Features & Modules: How to use popular built-in REDCap tools
  • Types of REDCap Projects: Guidance on different project types and when each may be appropriate
  • Special Features within REDCap Projects: Advanced features that may be enabled by users or REDCap administrators
Tip: Tutorial videos are a great starting point for new users before beginning hands-on project building.

Help & FAQ Within REDCap

REDCap includes extensive built-in help resources throughout the platform. On the top of the Home and My Projects pages, as well as in the lower-left corner of most project pages, users will find Help & Information sections containing detailed guidance related to the specific features and tools available on that page.

These resources include:

  • Help & FAQ: Extensive documentation and feature-specific guidance for many REDCap functions and workflows
  • Video Tutorials: Built-in training videos covering common tasks and project features
  • Contextual Help Links: Embedded help icons and informational links throughout REDCap that provide detailed explanations, setup guidance, and best practices for the associated feature or setting
Tip: REDCap’s built-in contextual help links are one of the fastest ways to learn specific functionality while actively building or managing a project.

Final Note

Please Note: New versions of REDCap are released frequently. Some training resources may show earlier versions of the software, so screens, menus, and options may look slightly different from your system. For the most current guidance, refer to REDCap’s built-in prompts, instructional text, Help & FAQ, and contextual help links.
