The Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center received the Mission: Lifeline® Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award for implementing specific quality improvement measures to treat patients who suffer severe heart attacks. The score is based on data on patient survival, volume, and more. John Dempsey received the highest scores for survival rate, which are significantly better than the national average.

Our knowledge and expertise in caring for people with MS and other neuroimmunological diseases have earned us designation as a comprehensive care center and a Partner in MS Care from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

UConn Health is the first medical center in Connecticut designated as a "HEARTSafe Campus" by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health in collaboration with the American Heart Association (AHA). UConn John Dempsey Hospital has been recognized as a Best Maternity are hospital. The distinction recognizes facilities that have provided exceptional care to mothers, newborns, and their families, as verified by the 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Measures include achieving lower rates of C-sections (NTSV), early elective delivery, episiotomy, and assuring bilirubin screening for all newborns and blood clot prevention techniques for mothers delivering via C-section. UConn John Dempsey Hospital is one of fewer than 225 in the nation to receive the prestigious accolade.

American Heart Association
UConn John Dempsey Hospital has received the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline® Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation. The accreditation program — provided by the American Heart Association — recognizes centers that meet or exceed the quality of care measures for people experiencing the most severe type of heart attack, ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

UConn John Dempsey Hospital earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval® for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals.

Level 3 Epilepsy Center Accreditation - 2022-2023
National Association of Epilepsy Centers
UConn Health has been certified as a level 3 epilepsy center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). The two-year accreditation recognizes our Epilepsy Center for our comprehensive team approach and professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest level of medical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

The Joint Commission
UConn Health Stroke Center has attained advanced certification by The Joint Commission as an Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center. UConn Health is only the second Advanced Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center in Connecticut and the first in the Hartford region. Learn more.

The Pat and Jim Calhoun Cardiology Center Echo lab has been accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) in Echocardiography in the areas of Adult Stress, Adult Transesophageal, and Adult Transthoracic and Peripheral Arterial Vascular Testing. The accreditation indicates compliance with national standards and a commitment to providing quality testing and patient care.
