Photo ID Badge Update

March will be the last month that an employee’s ID expiration date will be extended for one year from the current date on the badge. Employees with an expiration date in April or beyond will now be receiving email reminders to renew their ID 4 weeks prior to the expiration date, and as needed again 1 week prior to the expiration date.

To help accommodate renewals the photo ID badge window LG041, in the upper campus at the Main building near the Public Safety office, will be reopening on Tuesday, March 23 at the following times (excluding state holidays): Tuesdays 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., Wednesdays 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and Thursdays 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Individual walk-ups are welcome. Please follow social distancing protocols.

Photo ID badges will continue to be available in the lower campus, by appointment at the Administrative Services Building, 3rd Floor, Room D3500, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please see the contact information below.

Garage 1 COVID-19 Testing

Approximately 75 parking spaces on level 2 of Garage 1 are now blocked off for the COVID-19 drive-through testing area.

During Testing Hours:

  • All traffic entering the Garage 1, level 2 entrance will be limited to COVID-19 testing, ambulances and oversize/wheelchair vans.
  • All patient traffic for clinical appointments in the lower campus will use the Garage 1, level 1 entrance and exit.
  • Staff, students, and residents should plan to use the level 6, rooftop entrance and exit of the garage, and park on the upper levels 4 through 6, while avoiding the use of patient parking areas. Parking operations and Public Safety will monitor the level 6 traffic flow and raise the gates as needed.

The testing hours range from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and may vary based on the number of daily appointments. If the ‘COVID-19 Testing’ signs are displayed on the campus roads, testing is underway.

This requirement is in place to enhance your personal safety. The identification badge also provides access to restricted areas of campus.

An expiration date is printed on the front of your ID badge. Each person is responsible for replacing his or her badge, no sooner than 30 days prior to the expiration date, or if it is lost.

  • Employee and Volunteer badges expire every five (5) years on your birthday.
  • Medical and Dental Student badges expire at the end of May in your last academic year.
  • Graduate and Visiting Student badges expire at the end of the last month of your academic or clinical program.

Academic Lot Gates

The access gates at the Academic entrance parking lots A1, A2, A3 and A4 are now active.

When the entrance gate is in the down position you must scan your ID badge to open the gate. Do not attempt to follow a vehicle through the gates when they are active. You must stop, wait for the gate to return to the down position, then scan your ID badge to raise the entrance gate and proceed slowly.

At the exit lanes an ID badge scan is not required. The exit gate will open when your vehicle activates the in-ground loop detectors. Always proceed slowly, and watch for pedestrians and approaching traffic.

A valid permit or authorization by Parking, Transportation and Event Services is required to park in these lots. Vehicles without the proper permit or authorization will be subject to citations.

Please be cautious when travelling in this area.

Thank you.

New Names for Parking Lots

You’ve probably noticed the new wayfinding signs that have been installed around campus. Well, along with the new signs—the parking lots have been renamed. The lots now have a letter and number. The letter has to do with the closest entrance to or part of campus where the lot is located. For example, at the Main Entrance, M1 and M2 replace lots G and F, and the lower campus lots will start with “L.” The parking garage names will not be changing. Check the full list below for name changes.

Campus Shuttles Offers App Enables Real Time Tracking of New Campus Shuttles

You may have noticed something different about the campus shuttles at UConn Health.

The buses have digital route and destination signs and are branded with the UConn Health logo. The drivers wear blue uniforms.

Less obvious, the buses also have GPS monitoring. And that enables a feature that’s new to UConn Health shuttle passengers.

We are excited to roll out a mobile phone app and desktop link that track the shuttles along their routes and display the wait time between shuttle stops.
