Education and Training

Residency

The UConn Health Department of Family Medicine sponsors a Family Medicine Residency Program. The program provides a variety of clinical training experiences taught by an enthusiastic faculty set in an outstanding hospital. The core values of the program are humanity, diversity, collaboration, and innovation. Pharmacists, family therapists, social workers, nutritionists, nurses, and staff work side-by-side with patients, residents, and faculty in both teaching and clinical care to provide the best educational experience for our residents and the best care for our patients.

Family Medicine Residency

Fellowship

There are two diverse and outstanding fellowship programs open to family physicians: our Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship is sponsored by the Department of Family Medicine, and the Geriatric Fellowship is sponsored by the Department of Internal Medicine. Our fellows benefit from the collaborative environment at UConn Health and receive a diverse and comprehensive fellowship experience.

Sports Medicine Fellowship

The Sports Medicine Fellowship sponsored by the Department of Family Medicine is a one-year fellowship. The fellows assist with the care of Division I athletes at the University of Connecticut under the supervision of outstanding Orthopedics and Sports Medicine faculty. They also manage their own musculoskeletal and sports medicine continuity practice at the Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center’s Family Medicine Center at Asylum Hill.

Geriatric Fellowship

The UConn Center on Aging in the Department of Internal Medicine sponsors a two-year fellowship in geriatric medicine. Fellows develop clinical skills in caring for the elderly. Applications are accepted from both Family Medicine and Internal Medicine candidates. The Geriatric Fellowship features an integrated geriatric curriculum, which occurs in a geriatric hospital unit, ambulatory practice and assessment center, skilled nursing facility, and patients' homes.
