The ASSIST, developed for the World Health Organization, guides health workers through eight questions covering tobacco, alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, amphetamine-type stimulants, inhalants, sedatives, hallucinogens, opioids and 'other drugs'. Based on the patient's responses, the ASSIST generates a substance involvement score that suggests the level of intervention needed. ASSIST screening test is cross-culturally relevant and available in several different languages.

Screening and Brief Intervention for Alcohol Problems in Primary Care
The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) was developed for the World Health Organization to help health care professionals screen patients for excessive drinking and assist in a brief intervention that aims to help risky drinkers reduce or cease alcohol consumption, and thereby avoid the harmful consequences of their drinking. The manual is particularly designed for health care practitioners and a range of health settings, but with suitable instructions it can be self-administered or used by non-health professionals.
The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) is written to help primary health care workers – physicians, nurses, community health workers, and others – to deal with persons whose alcohol consumption has become hazardous or harmful to their health. The manual explains how to use the screening tool to identify persons with hazardous and harmful patterns of alcohol consumption. The AUDIT is comprised of 10 questions which represent three domains: alcohol consumption (Items 1-3), dependence (Items 4-6) and alcohol-related consequences (Items 7-10).
