Point of Care Testing
Point of Care Testing (POCT) is accomplished through the use of handheld instruments and portable devices allowing specimen testing to be brought conveniently to the patient. The advanced technology of the iSTAT® POCT system used at UConn Health allows rapid test results with the potential to expedite medical decision-making. Specimens are collected and results are obtained near the patient’s location so that treatment plans can be adjusted as necessary. POCT results are made available immediately to the patient’s electronic medical record where they can be shared with members of the medical team leading to improved patient outcomes. Portable POCT devices have a wide menu of testing options offering the flexibility to meet a variety of medical needs.
